Old inventory tool

Partnered with the data science team to analyze user behavior in the current experience. Data showed 89% of users visit multiple VIN details pages during a single session, and 80% return to model select based on current inventory statistics.

Reviewed inventory experiences across 12 competitors. Found that only 4 out of 12 utilize dynamic filtering, and 6 out of 12 allow users to save inventory.

Conducted a full heuristics evaluation to assess the current tool's usability against established design principles. Key failures were identified in the user control/freedom and error prevention categories.

Interviewed 8 users. Key takeaways: 7 out of 8 wanted to see monthly payment info while browsing inventory, and 6 out of 8 would like the ability to compare vehicles.

Insights & Adjustments

Product Understanding

It was clear testers struggled to understand the relationship between models, trims, packages, and options.

Inline Quick-view

Testers showed a clear preference for an inline quick-view experience over a modal, as it allowed them to stay within the context of the results page while reviewing additional VIN details.

Final Product

01

Robust Filtering

Introduced dynamic and expansive filter options, allowing users to more precisely narrow down inventory of interest.

02

Inline Quick-view

The quick-view allows users to access more detailed information about a VIN without leaving the shopping view.

03

Monthly Payments

Surfaces the pricing type that is most relevant to the user, making it easier to evaluate affordability at a glance.

04

Compare Specs

The introduction of a compare feature allows for easier understanding of the differences between VINs.

05

Preference Toggles

The inclusion of in-transit and e-shop only toggles allows users to shop however they are most comfortable.

06

Learn More Tooltips

Added tooltips throughout the experience, allowing users to learn about filter items they were unfamiliar with.
