Other range calculatorsReviewed 14 US automotive sites and 3 international sites to evaluate the landscape for EV range tools. Found that 0 out of 14 US sites include a range calculator tool. Of the 3 international range calculator tools reviewed, none included range information within the trim selection view.
Reviewed 3 non-auto manufacturer range calculator tools to evaluate alternative approaches. Found that 0 out of 3 allow the user to calculate range while in the trim selection view, and only 1 out of 3 allow the user to change the model they are looking at.

Wireframes
3 unique estimator layouts were created during the design phase of the project.
Rapid Prototypes
Prototypes for all estimator options were generated for testing.
Testing
All 3 estimator options were tested with 6 users via moderated usability sessions to gather insights and validate design decisions.
Insights & Adjustments
Large Imagery Preferred
Users indicated that while range is the most important element, they preferred the option that featured a large image of the model.
Everything in View
Testers with smaller mobile devices struggled with scrolling, so we made an effort to ensure all key elements fit within the user's viewport.
Final Product
Understandable Controls
Controls were designed to feel familiar and intuitive, ensuring users could confidently interact with the tool despite it being an entirely new experience.
Side by Side Trim Ranges
The trim view allows users to continue calculating range estimates, making it easy to compare those numbers across trims and make a more informed selection.
75+ MPH Double Slider
A key design consideration — providing flexibility between highway-heavy and city-focused drivers to deliver more relevant range estimates.
Visual Feedback
As the user adjusts controls, the visual element on the right animates in real time to reflect their selections — reinforcing the connection between input and output.
